EQ Daycare and the EQ After School Program

SAM’s Kids next two programs will be the EQ Daycare and the EQ After School Program. We will call them the EQ programs because we will be working on the development of Emotional Intelligence. Emotional Intelligence (EQ) can be more important in the success of a child than their IQ.

The EQ Daycare will be a high intensity, structured daycare. EQ will accept children whose family needs daycare but have been unsuccessful in locating and/or maintaining services due to their child’s needs. EQ will focus on behavior modification through the use of cognitive/behavioral techniques. Once the child has progressed we will look to integrate them back into a standard daycare situation.

EQ will work to identify negative thinking patterns that result in irresponsible behavior and emotional difficulty. We will then explore how to interrupt these patterns and develop more positive methods of thinking and a corresponding improvement in pro-social behavior and emotional stability. The intensity of the service will allow us to assist with the internalization of these newly learned mechanisms.

Parenting Classes

Parenting classes will also be a component of the EQ programs. We will work with the parents to teach them how the programming works. Once the parents understand the mechanisms and terminology, they will be able to develop new interventions to use at home. This will allow for a consistency that will speed up the internalization process and create lasting positive change for the child.

We are currently developing funding streams for this program and hope to begin offering services late in 2005 or early 2006.
