Home > Programs > Current ServicesHardwired for LifeSAM’s Kids initial program offering is the Hardwired for Life Program. This program is a cognitive/behavioral training course that will help youth understand how their thinking patterns affect their lives. We will work to identify negative thinking patterns that result in irresponsible behavior and emotional difficulty. We will then explore how to interrupt these patterns and develop more positive methods of thinking and a corresponding improvement in pro-social behavior and emotional stability. An important component of the programming will be parenting groups. These groups will assist parents in developing intervention strategies that can address their children’s unique behavioral and emotional needs. The Hardwired program is designed as a low intensity service, so the parent’s ability to develop new skills will be critical to success from this programming. The program is designed as a six-month course. The youth classes will meet twice a month for approximately three hours per class. The parent classes will meet once a month for approximately two hours. Attendance to all sessions will be crucial. This program is designed as a low intensity service for children who have been displaying an abnormal level of difficult behaviors. While these behaviors may cause some impairment they do not represent a severe dysfunction. Children with more intensive needs may not benefit from this level of service.
